Malachi Trout

Malachi Trout shows

Malachi brings his extensive knowledge of artists, producers, bands  and record labels. As owner of his own label and vinyl production company, we can expect to hear a show that’s rich with rare 7 10 and 12 inch cuts from several decades back as well as plenty of the brand new presses and pre-releases.

Born into a family who loved great music from the 60’s and 70’s, Malachi’s music knowledge began at birth. By the age of 12 he was buying his first records; by 14 he was well into James Brown; by 17 he was DJing; aged 22 he began working at Tower Records – where his music knowledge not only increased tenfold but where he cemented lifelong friendships with musicians that he began to make music with and who he still makes music with now.

Aged 23 he began licencing and selecting compilations at Master Cuts.

After at Hubbub records where he was licencing and compiling LPs such as, Jazzier Rhythms Vols 1 & 2; Soul Selection Vol 1& 2 and Funky Jams Vols 4,5 & 6.

Meanwhile, musically he was one of the founder members of the band, The Herbaliser – alongside Ollie Teeba and Jake Wherry. For the next few years, Malachi was DJing all over the world both with The Herbaliser Band and by himself as DJ Malachi.

1995 Malachi helped his friend and fellow record collector Gerald Short start the brilliant label, Jazzman Records. In 1998 he started the band Flying Fish with Ed Moris, through their mutual interest in drum and bass – releasing, Red Dog Saloon, The Storyteller and Theme, all on Federation Records.

By the year 2000 Malachi began working at Good Looking Records where he met, what would become another friend for life, LTJ Bukem – one of the pioneers of jungle, drum and bass and liquid. Now a worldwide phenomenal DJ.

By 2005 Malachi was hungry to start his very own label. He had too many great musician friends and tunes not to. Skyline Recordings was born. His first release, Mr Matatwe by Flying Fish sold and sold – b-boy breaks, dancer – it was a hommage to The Lessons by Double Dee and Stienski; it was a success.

In 2019 he partnered up with Frankie Park who soon became involved in the business and now they also enjoy working together on London Music Radio.
